A Bright New Year in the Garden

January 2026

We open the year the way we like to, with the doors flung wide, the garden in full summer light, and a quiet thank you to the families who make this place feel like home.

Cover of A Bright New Year in the Garden

A very happy new year to all our families. The garden has never looked greener, the willow is heavy with leaf, and the long summer afternoons have given us every excuse to sit outside a little longer with a cold drink and good company.

January is a gentle month here. There is no rush to it. Mornings begin slowly, the kettle goes on more than once, and the afternoons drift by under the trees. It is a lovely time to visit, and many of you have, often with grandchildren in tow on their school holidays. There is nothing that lifts a room quite like a small visitor and a packet of biscuits to share.

Settling into the year

As the year opens, we have been talking with each resident about the small things that make their days feel like their own. A favourite chair by the window. A particular tea. The radio program they would not miss. These are not small things at all, of course, and it is our privilege to learn them.

A thank you

To the families who dropped in over the festive season, who sent cards, who joined us for a cup of tea in the garden, thank you. Your presence is felt here every single day, and never more so than at the turning of a year.

We look forward to sharing the months ahead with you. The kettle, as ever, is on.

With warmth from all of us at The Willows
