Golden Leaves and Long Lunches
April 2026
April brought the full glory of autumn. We dined outdoors under a gold canopy, lingered over our meals, and let the afternoons run as long as they liked.
The willow is in its full autumn dress now, gold from crown to root, and the garden is carpeted in leaves that the breeze keeps rearranging. It has been a month of long lunches and longer conversations, of meals that no one seemed in any hurry to finish.
There is something about autumn that invites you to the table. The kitchen has cooked right to the season, with hearty, home-cooked food carried out warm, and we have set the long table outdoors more than once to make the most of the mild afternoons.
A meal shared is a meal remembered
Food has always mattered a great deal here. A familiar dish can carry a whole life in it, a childhood kitchen, a mother’s recipe, a celebration from years ago. We try to honour that, and the conversations that gather around a good meal are some of the warmest we hear all month.
Out among the leaves
For those who love the garden, April has been a gift. Whether it is a slow walk along the path or simply a chair set out in the sun, there has been plenty of reason to be outdoors, gathering up the last of the golden light before winter settles in.
From our table to yours, thank you for being part of the family here.
With warmth from all of us at The Willows
