Soup, Stories and the Wisdom of Mothers
May 2026
May is a month of mothers and memory. We honoured the women who shaped us, swapped the recipes that raised us, and warmed the home with soup and good stories.
May is a tender month. With Mother’s Day at its heart and the year turning toward winter, it asks us to slow down, to remember, and to give thanks for the people who shaped us.
We marked Mother’s Day gently and warmly, with flowers, a special morning tea, and a great deal of reminiscing. Many of our residents are mothers and grandmothers themselves, and the stories shared, of kitchens long ago, of children grown, of lessons passed down, were a privilege to hear.
The recipes that raised us
There is a particular kind of wisdom held in a well-loved recipe. This month our kitchen became a place of memory as much as nourishment, with familiar soups and home cooking that brought back a flood of recollection. A taste can do what words sometimes cannot, and there were many quiet, happy moments over a warm bowl.
Honouring our mothers
To every mother and grandmother in our home, and to the families who came to celebrate them, thank you. The love that filled the rooms this month was a reminder of why family is at the very centre of everything we do here.
As the colder months arrive, we wrap ourselves a little more warmly and hold one another a little more closely. With love from all of us at The Willows.
