The First Cool Mornings of Autumn

March 2026

The season has begun to turn. We pulled out the shawls, slowed our mornings down, and watched the willow take on its first hints of gold.

You can feel it now, that first cool edge to the morning air. The willow has begun to turn, just at the tips, and there is a different quality to the light coming through the garden, lower and warmer and somehow kinder.

Autumn is a thoughtful season here. We bring the shawls and cardigans out of storage, the soup makes its first appearance from the kitchen, and there is a contentment in slowing down to meet the change.

Mornings worth savouring

There is no better time of year for a slow morning. A warm cup of tea, the garden softening into mist, the gentle business of the day not yet begun. We have been making the most of these mornings, with quiet company and time that belongs to no schedule but the season’s.

Hands kept busy

The cooler weather has drawn our craft and art afternoons back indoors, and the tables have been busy with knitting, painting and the easy conversation that comes with working alongside one another. There is a great deal of pride in a finished piece, and it is always well earned.

As the leaves begin to fall, we are reminded how much beauty there is in a season changing gently. Thank you, as always, for sharing it with us.

With warmth from all of us at The Willows
